Free drivers ed for high school students

Free drivers ed for high school students

I believe that drivers ed should be free for high school students who has good grades and are doing well in their class. It should be a subject or class taught in our lacrosse high schools. Its expensive and it used to be taught in school, it is sad that it isnt that way anymore. So please consider this idea!!!

Wow, this is important...and since it would be needed annually, we could work on a regular funding source after its first year. Anyone have ideas how to do that? Fundraiser annually? Organization sponsor?

It is sooooo expensive...totally agree. How much does it cost right now?

High school students

I can see how it can be challenging to afford driver's ed. I'm wondering if this would create more disparity between social classes if it's only offered to students who are academically successful? A simple way may be finding certified volunteers who can teach driver's ed and would be willing to teach one class/year pro bono.

I love this! I was actually surprised to find out it wasn't offered in schools here in La Crosse. Do we know why it isn't offered anymore through the schools? Is there potential that they would want to partner with members of the community for summer courses at least? finally, would there be insurance issues to consider with a program like this?

Totally agree. I went to school with a few kids who waited until they were 18 to get their license as drivers ed was too expensive.

I did some digging. La Crosse Schools hasn't offered driver's ed in roughly a decade due to the high cost, teacher certification requirements, but, more importantly, the insurance liability piece.
