Dog Ownership Carbon Footprint And Environmental Damage

Dog ownership in the UK stands at 9.9m (2019) This has increased from 8.3m (2011) approx. 20% in 8 years The number of dogs in the UK increased by 400K in 2018 across an additional 300K households. 26% of households own a dog. Research has assessed the annual carbon footprint of the average dog as equivalent to 2 SUV cars (New Scientist). The damage to the environment is on this basis equivalent to the output from nearly 20 million SUVs in the UK. This excludes car travel to exercise.
