Two regions: Africa and Western Asia (Middle-east)

There are two options for Africa and Western Asia (Middle east). The whole continent of Africa can be seen a region or there is a split between MENA (Middle East, North Africa region) and Sub-Saharan Africa. In this proposal the MENA and Sub-Saharan is chosen. Western Asia is included in MENA region . Some countries will be excluded however: Turkey, Georgia, Armenia and Israel (see the debate under Europe) as well as Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Points

Languages, culture and religious believes as wel as political complexity is taken into account in the best possible way.

It is possible to place Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Israel in this possible MENA-region, but it has to be taken into account that there is a stronger bond with the European continent. Turkey and Azerbaijan are nevertheless predominantly Muslim countries whereas Israel, Georgia and Armenia follow other beliefs. Regarding Turkey see debate under Europe.

Afghanistan and Pakistan can be placed with the South Asian States because they are a member of SAARC (regional organization).

Cyprus should fall within Europe because of its membership to the EU and extremely close ties to Greece.

Afghanistan and Pakistan can be placed with the MENA region because of their designation as Islamic State.

Region “sub-Saharan” Africa can include all other non-MENA states in Africa (French, Portuguese and English spoken).
