The fleet of cars we have on the island, average age is around 12 - 15 year which is a very old. When one buy a new car currently we have to pay for registration tax and Vat on car sale which makes the cars more expensive compared to uk, italy, etc..The amount of money given with the scrapage scheme, the amount is very little when one buy new car. How about the government pass over EU funds so more people will be encouraged to change cars. The scheme should be similar to solar electricity power.
It has to be capped for cars engine up to 1700cc or something similar. The tax regime and other government charges will be refunded. If one goes for hybrid cars the incentive should be a bit more since these cars are expensive.
If Malta set legally-binding targets for new cars to emit 110 grams of CO2 per km by 2019 and 95g in 2024. It will help the emissions to drop and definitely we will have a cleaner climate.
